Communicator Wilfredo Pizarro killed in Liberia, Costa Rica
Wilfredo Pizarro Bermúdez, a 51‑year‑old broadcaster from Guanacaste, was shot dead on a rural road near Curubandé in Liberia on the night of 30 July 2026. According to the Organismo de Investigación Judicial (OIJ), he was traveling after receiving a last‑minute call from a client when his vehicle was intercepted and he was shot multiple times in what appears to be an attempted robbery.
Pizarro was also known for his work with the local media outlet GuanaNoticias and for running a popular ride‑hailing service. In addition, he served as president of the official Gloria Trevi fan club in Costa Rica, a role that connected him with hundreds of fans awaiting the singer’s October concert in the country. Friends described him as a community‑oriented figure who often helped neighbours with food, health needs and political aspirations, having once considered running for mayor of Liberia. The case remains under investigation by the OIJ.
