Communist Party criticizes Mitsotakis's visit to Western Macedonia

The Communist Party of Greece (KKE) Western Macedonia Regional Committee has issued a sharp critique following Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis's visit to the region. The party claims the government is disconnected from the local population's needs regarding employment, income, health, and energy.

According to the KKE, the policies of de-lignitization and the green transition have negatively impacted Western Macedonia. The party accused the government of using “creative statistics” to mask unemployment and criticized the energy planning for prioritizing corporate profitability over the energy needs of citizens.

The KKE is calling for an end to the closure of lignite plants and mines, demanding the reactivation of all lignite units without the constraints of EU commitments, carbon trading, or energy markets. They characterized the Prime Minister's visit as one aimed at investors and business groups rather than the local workforce.
