Communist Party of Bangladesh office attacked in Dhaka
The central office of the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) in Purana Paltan was attacked and besieged on Monday night. The incident began around 10:00 pm following a procession led by CPB activists to mark the release of Dipak Shil, former president of the Bangladesh Chhatra Union.
According to party leaders, the confrontation escalated when participants chanted ‘Joy Bangla, Joy Samajtantra’. Approximately 40 to 50 individuals, identifying themselves as members of the Jubo Dal and Chhatra Dal—the youth and student wings of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP)—objected to the slogan. The attackers reportedly beat two CPB activists before police arrived to rescue them and secure the area.
Abdullah Al Kafi, Central General Secretary of the CPB, described the assault as an act of terrorism by mobsters. He rejected allegations that the CPB was an accomplice to the previous government, citing the party’s active involvement in the July-August 2024 uprising and its role in organizing protests during that period.
