Communities hold events to support domestic violence survivors

Communities in Albert Lea and Elgin are hosting events to mark the start of Domestic Violence Awareness Month and support survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.

In Albert Lea, residents participated in the ‘Paint the Town Purple’ walk to raise awareness. Organizers emphasized the importance of listening to and believing victims to provide necessary support. The event highlighted the local impact of domestic violence, noting that at least 25 women in Minnesota died from such violence in 2025.

In Elgin, the ‘60 Million Rising: Survivors in Solidarity LIVE’ event featured live music and a candlelight vigil to spotlight survivor resources. The event supported organizations including the Family Crisis Center and Thrive After Domestic Violence, aiming to reach a broad audience through music rather than traditional fundraising methods.
