Communities in Guinea and France combat illegal waste dumping

In Conakry, Guinea, local youths organized a cleanup operation at the Bambeto interchange after the area had been used as an illegal dumping ground for several weeks. Residents reported that individuals frequently deposit plastic bags and household waste under the structure during the night, creating unsanitary conditions and foul odors for daily commuters. Organizers have called on municipal authorities to implement permanent solutions, such as installing waste bins and increasing nighttime surveillance.

In Lalinde, France, volunteers from the Secours populaire association expressed frustration after finding their premises inundated with several cubic meters of waste. The dumping included soiled clothing, toys, books, and a mattress, much of which was damaged beyond recovery. Volunteers noted that the illegal deposits often occur directly in front of prohibition signs and have placed an undue burden on the organization to transport the refuse to waste disposal centers.
