Community-based economic initiatives reported in Tangerang and Surabaya
In Tangerang, residents of Mekarsari Village are implementing a circular economy model through integrated eco-friendly waste management. Supported by Pertamina Patra Niaga's social and environmental responsibility program, the initiative converts waste, such as fallen leaves, into green energy sources. The program utilizes a Waste Processing at Source (TOSS) installation to drive local energy chains and provide economic benefits to the community.
In Surabaya, women in the Dupak Magersari area have established the Srikandi Kapirel Cooperative to foster economic independence. Members contribute small daily amounts to a collective fund, which has grown to over Rp50 million. These funds are redistributed as loans to help members fund small businesses, cover children's education costs, and perform home repairs, demonstrating a grassroots model of mutual cooperation.
