Community clean-up initiatives launched in UK and Saint Lucia

Community-led environmental initiatives have taken place in Grays, United Kingdom, and La Feuille, Saint Lucia, as part of broader efforts to address local waste and promote recycling.

In Grays, the Thurrock Council’s Sustainability Team organized a World Cleanup Day event at Thames Road Car Park and Kilverts Field. Volunteers collected and sorted 640 recyclable containers, including aluminium cans, plastic bottles, and glass bottles, weighing nearly 25kg. The council estimated the effort helped avoid approximately 65kg of CO2e emissions.

In Saint Lucia, The Green Movement launched its ‘Let’s Move Together’ Community Clean-Up Initiative. During an exercise in La Feuille and Monchy, a volunteer team encountered significant roadside litter and discarded household items. The organization emphasized that effective waste management requires a combination of collection, responsible disposal practices, and public education to maintain clean shared spaces.
