Community disputes in Argentina and waste management issues in Paraguay

In Portela, Argentina, the community of the CEPT 17 school is protesting the disqualification of its Administration Council. Following an anonymous report of mismanagement, the council has been barred from its functions. Local parents, including Graciela Hunziker, expressed frustration over the lack of transparency and the potential for leadership to be appointed without community input. The council previously managed voluntary contributions and food production to support student meals, a system that has now been halted.

In Asunción, Paraguay, municipal officials report a critical shortage of functional garbage trucks. Despite regular purchases every few years, the city's fleet is struggling due to overexploitation and the lack of a current maintenance contract. Out of the available fleet, only 11 collection trucks are currently operational, with several others sidelined by engine and mechanical issues. Officials noted that the city's waste collection plan, originally developed with assistance from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in 1994, requires urgent updating to reflect modern urban changes.
