Community dog 'Amarillo' killed by gunfire in Tehuitzingo, Puebla

A dog known locally as “Amarillo” was shot dead in the community of Santa Cruz Tejalpa, in the municipality of Tehuitzingo, Puebla. The killing took place in front of several residents, including children, and sparked immediate outrage.

Local inhabitants have organized protests demanding that authorities locate and prosecute the shooter. They have appealed to the State Institute for Animal Welfare (IBA) and the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) to enforce the animal‑cruelty provisions of Puebla’s penal code, which prescribe prison terms and fines for intentional violence against animals. “Amarillo,” rescued after being abandoned, had become a beloved part of the neighborhood, often accompanying families and guarding the local sanctuary area. The community says the incident reflects a broader social decay and will continue demonstrations until the responsible party is brought to justice.
