National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day scheduled for October 24

Various local agencies and law enforcement departments across the United States are participating in National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, October 24, 2026. Held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the initiative aims to prevent medication misuse, accidental poisoning, and environmental contamination by providing safe disposal methods for unused or expired prescription drugs.

In Franklin County, SWACO and local law enforcement will host collection sites to help residents dispose of dry prescription pills. Similarly, the Montgomery County Department of Police has announced nine collection locations, including several police stations and community centers, to facilitate the program organized by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

In Pennsylvania, Penn State Health is offering drive-through collection sites at six locations, including the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and various medical group offices, in partnership with the DEA and several township police departments. In Florida, the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office is hosting ‘Operation Medicine Cabinet’ at a Walmart in The Villages, offering free and anonymous disposal of unwanted pills.
