Community events promote substance abuse recovery and support

Community organizations in the United States are hosting events to support substance abuse recovery and reduce social stigma.

In Southern Minnesota, the non-profit Recovery is Happening held its fifteenth annual Rally for Recovery 5k Walk/Run. The event aims to encourage individuals to celebrate their recovery openly rather than through anonymous groups, fostering community connection and reducing the stigma associated with substance use disorder.

In Knox County, Ohio, the second annual recovery conference is scheduled for September 25 at the Glenn A. Gallagher Center. Supported by the Ohio Department of Behavioral Health and the United Way of Knox County, the event focuses on women and mothers in recovery. The conference provides resources regarding mental health, housing, employment, and family services, while offering interactive wellness activities and professional continuing education units for chemical dependency specialists.
