Community festivals conclude in San Juan Islands and Comox Valley

The 2026 San Juan County Fair featured various community activities, including the Zucchini 500 and a Fashion Trashion show. Jennifer Rigg received the Washington State Fair Commission’s Black and White Award for the Open Poultry and Rabbit barn, an honor bestowed by the Washington State Department of Agriculture every two years to recognize excellence in fair programming and grounds.

In British Columbia, the Comox Valley RibFest concluded its three-day festival at Village Park in Cumberland. The event attracted over 10,000 visitors and raised funds for local and international Rotary initiatives. Grizzly BBQ won both the Best Ribs and Best Ribber Sauce awards, while GrillBilly Willy’s earned the People’s Choice award. The festival’s Green Team successfully diverted 4,000 cubic meters of waste from landfills to compost.
