Community Film Programs Launched in Mexico and Argentina
Mexico's municipal government in San Juan del Río introduced "Cine en tus manos," a community‑focused cinema program aimed at fostering creativity, providing audiovisual training and encouraging local storytelling. The initiative, presented by municipal secretary Roberto Jiménez Salinas and supported by mayor Roberto Cabrera Valencia, seeks to develop artistic skills, generate occupational alternatives for youth and strengthen community identity through film.
In Argentina's Misiones province, the Institute of Audiovisual Arts (IAAviM) started the "Sueño Cine" development program for feature‑film projects. The first intensive workshop in Posadas brought together five director‑producer pairs, who received mentorship from established filmmakers such as Eugenia Campos Guevara and Juan Pablo Miller. Participants highlighted the program’s role in shaping scripts, creating presentation dossiers and accessing future funding opportunities, aiming to bring regional stories to the national screen.
Both initiatives illustrate a broader effort in Latin America to use cinema as a tool for cultural participation, skill development and regional storytelling.
