Community gatherings provide support for bereaved individuals in Netherlands and Belgium

Various community initiatives in the Netherlands and Belgium are providing spaces for individuals to process grief and find mutual support.

In Amsterdam, the Protestant Church, in collaboration with Stichting Luistergroepen, hosts listening groups in several local churches. These sessions allow participants to share experiences regarding loss, the challenges of caregiving, and personal struggles. The groups focus on fostering connection and sharing coping mechanisms, such as creative outlets or dedicated spaces for remembrance.

In Belgium, Uitvaartzorg Schillebeeckx organized memorial ceremonies at the Turnhout crematorium for approximately 2,000 bereaved individuals. Now in its eighth year, the event honors those who passed away during the previous year through name readings and live music. Participants are provided with roses to leave personal messages, contributing to a collective memorial display.
