Community groups conduct river cleanups in Bekasi and Ciamis

Various community and political groups in Indonesia have conducted river cleanup activities to address waste accumulation and prevent flooding.

In Bekasi, the Gerindra Party organized a cleanup of the Bekasi River as part of the national ‘ASRI’ (Safe, Healthy, Clean, Beautiful) movement. The initiative included removing trash, spreading fish seeds and eco-enzymes, and planting trees along the riverbanks. Nuroji, a member of the Indonesian House of Representatives from the Gerindra faction, emphasized that the movement requires massive effort and consistency to build a culture of cleanliness.

In Ciamis, West Java, the Hizbul Wathan scouting movement, alongside members of Muhammadiyah organizations and local military personnel, cleaned a tributary of the Cikaso River. Participants collected household waste, such as plastics and disposable diapers, to prevent flooding during the upcoming rainy season. The activity was also held in observance of World Cleanup Day.
