Community groups host intergenerational events to honor elderly

Community organizations in the United States and Taiwan have hosted events focused on intergenerational connection and honoring the elderly.

In Walnut, California, the Hand In Hand non-profit foundation, founded by students including Si Yuan Liu, organized an event at a local senior center. The program featured musical performances, dance, and companionship to express respect for seniors. Local officials, including Walnut Mayor Wai Lun Wu, attended the event to support youth involvement in community service.

In Yunlin, Taiwan, the Dongtun community held a “youth-senior co-learning” event in collaboration with the Formosa Long-term Care Aromatherapy Lions Club. During the activity, elderly residents acted as instructors, teaching local children how to make essential oil grape soaps. The initiative aimed to transform traditional elderly care into a mutual exchange where seniors share life wisdom and skills with the younger generation.
