Community groups lead grassroots social and environmental initiatives

Community groups in Argentina and Mexico are launching independent initiatives to address social and environmental challenges.

In the Villa Pueyrredón neighborhood of Buenos Aires, the Asamblea de Villa Pueyrredón has established a weekly solidarity snack service at the Villa Pueyrredón railway station. Operating as a non-partisan, horizontal organization since 2021, the group provides food and support to vulnerable individuals. Beyond providing meals, the assembly organizes community activities such as film debates to strengthen local social ties.

In Veracruz, Mexico, a group of citizens and cyclists organized a self-funded reforestation project to combat urban heat islands. Led by Alfredo Hernández Hernández, participants planted 200 trees and shrubs along the Rafael Cuervo avenue and Fidel Velázquez boulevard. The initiative was conducted without government support, with all costs covered by the participants to increase local vegetation and attract pollinators.
