Community health initiatives focus on diabetes and vision screenings

Community health initiatives in India and Canada are focusing on preventive screenings to combat rising rates of diabetes and related complications.

Aegle Touch Services Pvt. Ltd. hosted a Diabetes Awareness Conclave in Nallagandla, Hyderabad, to discuss early detection and lifestyle management. The event highlighted the scale of the diabetes crisis in India; according to the International Diabetes Federation, approximately 89.8 million adults in India were living with diabetes in 2024, with roughly 43 per cent of cases remaining undiagnosed. Experts warned that without intervention, this figure could reach 156.7 million by 2050.

In Rexdale, Canada, a collaborative clinic organized by Forsee Canada and the Rexdale Community Health Centre provided residents with access to eye examinations, blood pressure monitoring, and blood sugar testing. The screening aimed to identify vision-threatening conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts, and diabetic retinopathy. Medical professionals reported that the event successfully identified several individuals with elevated blood pressure or suspicious optic nerves, emphasizing the importance of early detection for long-term health management.
