Community health programs expand medical access in Venezuela and Honduras
In Venezuela, the National Public Health System reported 642 health benefits provided during simultaneous medical jornadas in the Santiago Mariño municipality. The initiative, coordinated across the Pedro Arévalo Aponte and Santiago Mariño parishes, included 133 free medical consultations covering general medicine, pediatrics, and endocrinometabolic evaluations. The program also featured clinical screenings for cardiovascular and metabolic risks, vaccinations, and the distribution of 620 doses of medication through community pharmacies.
In Honduras, the “La Salud Más Cerca de Usted” program, led by President Nasry Asfura, has deployed Community Medical Care Units (UMAC) to the municipality of Magdalena in Intibucá. This initiative aims to reduce the need for residents to travel several hours to La Esperanza or Tegucigalpa for specialized care. The UMAC services include general and specialized consultations, psychological care, laboratory tests, dentistry, mammography, X-rays, ultrasounds, and telemedicine.
