Community health support initiatives launched in Gers and Sarthe
Various community health and support initiatives are being implemented in France to assist individuals with specific health needs.
In the Gers region, UNAFAM is resuming its discussion groups starting September 8. These sessions, led by a psychologist and a peer-aid coordinator, are designed for the relatives and friends of people living with severe mental health disorders, such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and depression. The meetings will take place monthly, either in person in Auch or via videoconference, to provide emotional support and reduce isolation for caregivers.
In the Sarthe region, specifically in Cormes, adapted physical activity (APA) sessions will be offered starting in October 2026. Led by Loris Cheron from the Maison Sport-Santé du Mans, these personalized sessions aim to provide accessible exercise for individuals with pathologies who cannot participate in standard physical activities. The initiative is supported by the Mayor of Cormes and the Communauté de communes de Perche Émeraude to improve local access to health-focused sports.
