Community initiatives drive food security and mining integration in Chile
In Curicó, Chile, the EcoMercado Solidario program commemorated the Month of Solidarity by receiving over half a ton of food donations, including vegetables, fruit, rice, and pasta. These donations, provided by the Curicó Free Market, Felicur S.A., and Frutasol Ltda., are intended for families facing food insecurity. The program, a joint effort between FOSIS and the local municipality, also launched a project for vegetable self-production to support hundreds of families in the region.
In the Atacama region, Cemin’s Dos Amigos plant received the 2026 San Lorenzo Award from Sonami in the Medium Mining category. The award recognizes the plant's integration with local small-scale mining, as it processes up to 8,000 tons of mineral monthly from regional producers. Cemin has operated in the area since 1997 and maintains a local workforce, with 66% of its employees hailing from the Atacama Region.
