Community initiatives in Greece focus on child safety and family support

Various community initiatives in Greece are focusing on child welfare and family support. In Heraklion, the Region of Crete is organizing an educational event titled ‘Growing Together by Supporting the New Family’ on September 23, 2026. Held at the Youth Multi-purpose Center of Heraklion under the auspices of the University of Crete, the event aims to improve road safety through education for both parents and children. Participants include representatives from the Heraklion Traffic Police, the Regional Directorate of Education, and SOS Traffic Accidents.

In Patras, SOS Children's Villages continues to provide free support services through its Child and Family Support Center. Since 2017, the center has offered psychosocial support, speech therapy, special education, and tutoring for primary and secondary students. The program also includes creative workshops, such as music and English language classes, designed to empower children and adolescents while providing parents with guidance on their roles and family relationships.
