Community initiatives in Szczecin and Poland focus on empathy and social support
In Szczecin, the fifth edition of the ‘Bieg w Ciemno’ (Run in the Dark) is scheduled for October 25, 2026, at Jasne Błonia. Organized by the Extreme Wolf Association, the event invites participants to run a symbolic one-kilometer course in pairs, where one person is blindfolded and the other acts as a guide. The initiative aims to foster empathy and understanding of the daily challenges faced by visually impaired individuals.
In a separate social context, Father Mirosław Tosza, who lives with the homeless at the Bethlehem Community, discusses the importance of dignity and meaningful engagement with the impoverished. The community, which has operated for 30 years, emphasizes finding light within the marginalized rather than merely providing aid. The discussion also highlights creative efforts, such as crafting icons from wood salvaged from a burned cathedral, to symbolize the resilience of those living on the margins of society.
