Community initiatives launched in Nagykanizsa
Various community-focused programs have been introduced in Nagykanizsa to support social cohesion and resource management.
At the Bogdán János Community House, a program titled ‘Who are we, Roma?’ was organized to promote Roma cultural identity and foster dialogue between different groups. Led by László Teleki, president of the Nagykanizsai Roma National Minority Self-Government, the event aimed to strengthen the identity of younger generations and combat racism and misinformation regarding Roma history and culture.
Additionally, a food donation box on Csengery Street has been renewed to combat food waste and assist those in need. Funded by a local Lutheran foundation, the new, larger container allows residents to donate surplus non-perishable food and baked goods, which can then be collected by anyone requiring assistance. The initiative serves both social welfare and environmental goals by reducing food waste.
