Community initiatives support elderly residents in Austria and Germany

In Frankfurt, Germany, the German Red Cross (DRK) has launched a new culturally sensitive visiting service through its HIWA! advisory center. Funded by the city’s ‘Dignity in Old Age’ program, the free service connects elderly residents with migration backgrounds to trained volunteers. The initiative aims to combat isolation by offering companionship, conversations in native languages, and shared activities such as walks or card games.
