Community kitchens face varying challenges in Argentina and Mexico

In Esteban Echeverría, Argentina, the community kitchen ‘Sueños de Esperanza’ is facing potential closure due to a surge in demand and a decline in donations. The facility, which currently assists approximately 80 families, reports that local businesses and volunteers are no longer able to sustain their previous levels of support. This local crisis follows data from INDEC indicating that poverty in Argentina reached 32.3% during the first half of 2026, with indigence at 7.5%.

In Uayma, Mexico, the DIF Yucatán has expanded its food assistance services through the opening of the ‘Cocinando con Amor’ community kitchen. Part of the Program of Food, Encounter, and Development, the space has provided 4,130 nutritious meals to 59 beneficiaries. The initiative included an investment of over 72,000 pesos for food and approximately 59,000 pesos for kitchen equipment and supplies to improve service conditions for the community.
