Community libraries promote literacy and culture in Argentina and Spain

Community-led literacy and cultural initiatives are being highlighted in Argentina and Spain. In the Liniers neighborhood of Córdoba, Argentina, the Gabriela Mistral Library has undergone a revitalization process. Originally established in 1994, the library re-opened in 2018 following a book donation drive. Through a partnership with the School of Archival Studies at the National University of Córdoba, the institution is currently cataloging nearly two thousand volumes and working to establish a historical archive for the neighborhood.

In Melilla, Spain, the Mensajeros de la Paz Foundation has launched a mobile library initiative to bring reading and art to the La Cañada neighborhood. The program held a recent event at Mohamed Amichaid Ayad Park, combining storytelling with creative collage workshops for children. The initiative aims to foster reading habits while promoting artistic expression and teamwork among local youth.
