Isabel Díaz Ayuso dismisses Chamberí penthouse controversy

Isabel Díaz Ayuso, President of the Community of Madrid, has attempted to end the controversy regarding the purchase of a luxury penthouse in Chamberí by stating, “It is for sale, chao pescao.” The property was acquired by the public company Planifica Madrid for approximately 6.3 million euros to serve as temporary offices for the regional government during renovations at the Real Casa de Correos.

The purchase has faced scrutiny from political opponents, including PP leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo, who noted he was aware of the search for a temporary location since April. Critics have questioned why a property with residential zoning was purchased for office use and have called for further explanations from the regional Heritage department.

Ayuso defended the transaction, asserting that the property is intended for offices and is already on the market for approximately 6.69 million euros. She stated that the proceeds from the sale would be used for reconstruction efforts in the Sierra Oeste following recent forest fires. Ayuso dismissed the ongoing criticism as an attempt by the opposition to “stir up and entangle” the issue.
