Community organizations host events for World Suicide Prevention Day
Various community organizations are organizing events to mark World Suicide Prevention Day on September 10. These initiatives aim to promote mental wellbeing, reduce stigma, and encourage compassionate conversations.
In the United Kingdom, Swindon and Gloucestershire Mind is hosting ‘Tree of Hope’ events. These involve creating displays where the public can share messages of encouragement and support. The charity is also inviting organizations to ‘Light up Blue’ on World Mental Health Day in October to show solidarity. One such tree has already been completed with the Defence Academy in Shrivenham.
Additionally, The Anthony Seddon Fund (TASFund) is organizing an awareness walk and candlelit vigil. The event includes a three-mile walk from the Tameside Wellness Centre to Hyde town centre, followed by a vigil to remember those lost to suicide. The activities align with the global theme ‘Changing the Narrative on Suicide’ to foster community connection.
