Community programs promote active aging and senior wellness
Various regional initiatives are being implemented to promote active aging and mental health among senior citizens through community-based physical and social activities.
In Veracruz, Mexico, Parque Acuático Inbursa is launching an integration project for older adults to combat loneliness and foster emotional well-being. The initiative aims to provide a weekday meeting space for seniors to engage in low-impact aquatic activities, chess tournaments, dominoes, outdoor walks, and dance sessions. The program seeks to create a social community within a natural environment, offering amenities such as complimentary tea and coffee to encourage social interaction.
In Santa Úrsula, Spain, the ‘Salud en la Playa’ (Health on the Beach) program recently concluded its latest edition. The initiative, held at Playa Jardín in Puerto de la Cruz, saw 89 participants engaging in adapted physical exercises throughout July. Led by specialists, the sessions focused on mobility, muscle strengthening, balance, and coordination, alongside relaxation and conscious breathing techniques. The program emphasized the importance of combining physical exercise with social support to improve the emotional and social well-being of the elderly.
