Community projects in Brazil distribute free eyeglasses to students

Various community and academic initiatives in Brazil are providing free eyeglasses to students to improve visual health and educational outcomes.

In Gaspar, the ‘Ver para Aprender’ project, a partnership between the Lions Clube Gaspar, the local government, and Ótica Maxx, recently distributed 65 pairs of glasses. The initiative involved visual acuity tests for 1,082 students across 21 schools, with approximately 150 ophthalmological consultations conducted to identify issues such as myopia and astigmatism.

In the northern region, the ‘De Olho no Futuro’ project, led by students and professors from the Federal University of Mato Grosso (UFMT) in Sinop, is delivering glasses to 121 students. This multi-stage program screened nearly 3,000 students from public schools in Sinop, Santa Carmem, Cláudia, Terra Nova, and Feliz Natal. Following medical evaluations, students with vision correction needs received their eyewear free of charge.
