Community projects in New Zealand and Ireland secure local funding

Community-led initiatives in New Zealand and Ireland have secured significant funding to support local resilience and social projects.

In New Zealand, the Northland Regional Council’s Climate Resilient Communities Fund has awarded $480,000 to 15 projects across Taitokerau. These initiatives focus on climate adaptation, including solar power and battery systems at Te Rāwhiti and Pananawe Marae, water security for Te Huruhi Marae and Maraewhiti, and food sovereignty through the Peruperu Rawa initiative. The fund saw high demand, with 90 applications totaling $3.5 million.

In Ireland, the Timahoe North Solar Farm Community Benefit Fund has distributed €135,300 to 34 community organisations and five scholars. The fund, financed by an annual contribution from the solar farm, supports projects within 10km of the site, including biodiversity, education, and social inclusion. Recipients include the Timahoe National School Parents’ Association and Enfield Celtic FC.
