Community projects in the Netherlands mark decade-long milestones
In the Netherlands, two community-focused projects have recently marked significant milestones.
Landgoed Bieduinen has completed a decade-long renovation and redevelopment project. Led by administrator Katrien Muylaert, the initiative involved constructing new homes, converting a former stable, restoring monumental sections of the estate, and modernizing 1960s-era wings to improve sustainability and living quality. The project emphasized resident participation in the planning and execution processes.
Meanwhile, Bouwdorp DUUK celebrated its tenth anniversary with a special edition of its youth construction camp held from August 15 to 19, 2026, near Lindenberg Aldenhof. Approximately 200 children participated in building huts despite variable weather. The event also honored volunteer Wim van Aar, who participated in his 50th construction camp. Organizers noted that a shortage of adult volunteers limited the number of children admitted this year and issued a call for more volunteers for 2027.
