Community protests and waste allegations reported in Dominican Republic

Residents in La Vega, Dominican Republic, held protests in the El Tanque community to demand road repairs. Protesters used signs and burned tires to highlight the advanced deterioration of local streets, which they claim have lacked asphalt for over five years. Eddy Flores, president of the La Vega Federation of Neighborhood Associations, stated that deep potholes and trenches frequently cause flooding in homes during rainfall and hinder access to local sectors, including a police station.

In Hato Mayor, residents of Villa Ortega reported that two alleged employees of the National Council for the Elderly (CONAPE) were filmed disposing of trash in an improvised landfill. The individuals were reportedly using a black vehicle assigned to the CONAPE offices. Local citizens expressed indignation, noting that the unauthorized dumping exacerbates existing waste management issues and criticized the municipal government for insufficient trash collection services.
