Community school courtyard inaugurated in Assisi

The Assisi and Verdi schools of the Tommaseo comprehensive institute have inaugurated the “Cortile vivo” (Living Courtyard) on via Matteo Pescatore. The project, completed in 2024, aims to transform school courtyards into multifunctional, inclusive, and green spaces available to the local community.

The €70,000 redevelopment included new anti-trauma flooring, repainted walls and railings, and the installation of inclusive seating and study areas. The project also features a restored urban garden with a school vegetable patch designed to be accessible to wheelchair users and suitable for orthotherapy. New signage, including augmentative and alternative communication (CAA), has also been implemented.

Local associations, led by the non-profit A. Tom. I., will manage the space, overseeing its opening during afternoons and on Saturdays. The inauguration was attended by local officials, including City Council President Maria Grazia Grippo and School Director Stefania Laera.
