Community security committees proposed in San Quintín and San Sebastián
In San Quintín, Baja California, the Citizen Council for Public Security of Baja California (CCSPBC) is seeking to increase social sector participation in the integration of the San Quintín Public Security Committee. Edgardo Flores Campbell, president of the CCSPBC, noted that business representatives have expressed a lack of awareness regarding the selection process. He proposed strengthening outreach to business chambers, civil organizations, and academic institutions to foster a constructive relationship between citizens and authorities focused on transparency and accountability.
In San Sebastián, social organizations and residents met with regional and provincial authorities, including the Mayor of Cartagena, Lily Silva García, to address rising crime. Following an armed attack that resulted in one death and two injuries, participants agreed to form a security committee. This body will hold periodic meetings to evaluate progress, coordinate actions with police forces such as Carabineros and the PDI, and address community concerns regarding crime prevention and emergency response.
