Community walks promote suicide prevention and mental health awareness
Community events focused on suicide prevention and mental health awareness are taking place across the United States. In Milwaukee, the NAMIWalks Southeast Wisconsin event is scheduled to raise awareness and support for suicide and overdose prevention, featuring a 1.5-mile walk, speakers, and wellness activities. Additionally, the Gerald L. Ignace Indian Health Center is hosting an Out of the Darkness Community Walk to support suicide prevention.
In Duluth, Minnesota, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention held an Out of the Darkness Community Walk at Brighton Beach. The event aimed to unite those impacted by suicide, providing a space for remembrance and connection. Proceeds from the walk support research, advocacy, and support groups. According to the Minnesota Department of Health, 845 Minnesotans died by suicide in 2025, and suicide remains the 10th leading cause of death in the United States.
