Community Winter Blanket Drives in Futrono, Chile and La Matanza, Argentina
In Futrono, Chile, the municipal "Manos que Abrigan" campaign wove 316 metres of blanket – an increase of 111 metres over the previous year – to be distributed to elderly and dependent residents during the cold season. The effort, coordinated by the Casa de la Mujer Lya Vásquez under Mayor Fernando Flández, involved hundreds of volunteers, families and local organisations.
In La Matanza, Argentina, the Casa de Auxilio de Ramos Mejía partnered with the parish Santísimo Redentor, the Fundación Sí Zona Oeste and the Red Solidaria La Matanza to collect blankets, coats and other warm clothing for people on the streets. Coordinated by Alicia Cirilo, donations are accepted daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. at the centre's headquarters, aiming to provide material support and companionship during winter.
