Italy appoints new Sport Diplomacy Ambassadors

Italy is utilizing sports as a tool for international diplomacy and national promotion. During the third edition of the Day of Italian Sport in the World held at the Farnesina, Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani appointed new Ambassadors of Sport Diplomacy.

These ambassadors include various Italian athletes and organizations, such as Max Sirena representing Luna Rossa and the women’s national sitting volleyball team. The 2026 theme, ‘Italy: Land of Enterprises, Sea of Excellences,’ focuses on the relationship between the country and aquatic sports, aligning with preparations for the 2027 America’s Cup in Naples.

Simultaneously, various local communities across Italy are hosting sports festivals and inclusive events. These include youth cycling meets in Catania and Petrignano, disability-focused competitions in Siracusa, and community sports days in Frascati, San Lorenzo al Mare, Rho, and Sulmona, highlighting the role of sport in social cohesion and local engagement.
