Commuters demand improved railway station accessibility in Lombardy
A group of commuters has called on the Italian Parliament to address chronic accessibility issues at railway stations in Lombardy. During a debate at the Pirellone, regional councilor Gian Mario Fragomeli presented data highlighting the difficulties faced by individuals with reduced mobility, such as broken elevators, misaligned platforms, and a lack of dedicated services.
Statistics reveal a significant disparity in accessibility between different rail operators. While 99% of single-track stations in the region are accessible, RFI-managed stations show lower rates, with only 27.3% guaranteeing full usability across all platforms. In contrast, the Ferrovienord network reports higher accessibility, with 62.4% of its stations being completely usable. Fragomeli also noted that a lack of a governance plan has rendered some allocated regional funds ineffective.
