Commuters face overcrowding on Lecco-Milan train line

Regional Councilor Gian Mario Fragomeli has formally requested intervention from the Lombardy Region to address severe overcrowding on the Tirano-Sondrio-Lecco-Milan railway line. Images of commuters packed into carriages have highlighted the inadequacy of current Trenord services in meeting passenger demand.

Fragomeli has submitted a written inquiry to Regional Transport Councilor Franco Lucente, urging an evaluation of adding more carriages or deploying trains with higher capacity. He also proposed increasing the frequency of trips during the afternoon peak hours, specifically noting the RegioExpress RE8 service.

The line serves a critical demographic of workers, students, and residents, as well as significant tourist hubs. Fragomeli emphasized that the demand for mobility on this route is no longer strictly seasonal, as international visitors frequently use the rail connection between the lakes and Milan throughout the year.
