Común siblings face legal investigations amid Huancavelica election bids

Siblings Carlos Común Gavilán and Nelfa Común Gavilán are seeking political office in Huancavelica, Peru, amid ongoing legal challenges. Running under the Alianza para el Progreso (APP) banner, Carlos is campaigning for the Regional Government of Huancavelica, while Nelfa is seeking the provincial mayoralty of Tayacaja.

Carlos Común Gavilán faces multiple legal proceedings. According to Public Ministry reports, he is subject to three investigations initiated within the last three years. These include a formal preparatory investigation involving allegations of illicit enrichment, prohibited political financing, falsification of information regarding contributions, and coercion to determine votes. Additionally, he faces an indictment for alleged abuse of authority and a case regarding the alleged falsification of documents.

The Común siblings have been prominent in Tayacaja politics for over two decades. Carlos has previously served three terms as a district mayor and two terms as a provincial mayor, while Nelfa has served three terms as a district mayor.
