Como begins Fiera di Sant’Abbondio celebrations

The Fiera di Sant’Abbondio has officially commenced in Como, celebrating the city's patron saint through August 31. The event features a variety of cultural, religious, and gastronomic activities.

Local cuisine is a central focus, with a dedicated dining area in the Basilica offering traditional dishes such as polenta, trippa, and fresh lake fish. Proceeds from these meals, after expenses, are donated to charity. Last year, the event raised 30,000 euros for such causes.

The program includes an agricultural market and livestock exhibition on Sunday, August 30, as well as art exhibitions like ‘Como, vecchie immagini’. Religious services organized by the Diocese of Como will take place throughout the festivities, including a solemn Mass on August 31. Musical performances, including a concert by the Franz Terraneo Como Chamber Orchestra, will also be held, with donations supporting the Casa Nazareth soup kitchen.
