Como lakefront closure sparks protest from nine regional mayors
Nine mayors from the Lariana and Triangolo Lariano regions have issued a formal protest to regional and provincial authorities regarding severe traffic disruptions caused by the closure of the Como lakefront. The mayors, representing towns including Bellagio, Blevio, and Nesso, described the situation as “delirious,” noting that traffic delays have reached up to 150 minutes.
The mayors expressed frustration that the works began without official communication from the Mayor of Como, Alessandro Rapinese. They highlighted significant risks to public safety, specifically citing the impact on ambulances, dialysis patients, and individuals with urgent medical appointments. The group is calling for an immediate meeting to establish a dialogue and find a permanent solution for traffic management on the SS Lariana.
The road closures are part of extraordinary maintenance work on the drainage system near Piazza Cavour, scheduled to continue until September 12. While some access is permitted for residents and hotel guests, the restrictions have caused significant delays for commuters and required changes to public transport routes.
