Como weather causes landslides and major rail disruptions
Severe storms in the Como region of Italy have caused significant infrastructure damage and transportation disruptions. Heavy rainfall led to landslides and mudflows in Como, specifically affecting via Oltrecolle and via Monte Grappa. In the latter area, a slope collapse partially impacted a gas station, prompting road closures to ensure public safety.
The weather also severely impacted rail services. Trenord and Ferrovie Federali Svizzere (FFS) reported cancellations and delays of up to 30 minutes on lines connecting Como, Milan, and Chiasso. These disruptions were caused by debris on tracks near Como Camerlata, flooded tracks in the Albate-Camerlata area, and a freight train derailment at the Milano Greco Pirelli station the previous evening.
While some rail services between Chiasso and Milan Centrale have returned to normal, occasional delays persist. Local authorities and emergency services continue to monitor the situation and work on securing affected areas.
