Como residents report safety risks due to urban decay
Residents in Como have raised alarms regarding the severe degradation of infrastructure in Piazza Volta and via Grassi. The lack of maintenance over several years has resulted in uneven paving, missing porphyry stones, and potholes, creating significant tripping hazards.
Local reports highlight that these conditions pose a particular risk to elderly citizens and tourists. One instance involved an 80-year-old man who fell after tripping on the uneven surface. Beyond physical hazards, the area is reportedly suffering from poor lighting and has become a site for criminal activity, including drug dealing and recent reports of stabbings and brawls.
Despite repeated social media reports directed at Mayor Rapinese, residents claim that previous attempts at repair—such as filling holes with cement mortar—have been insufficient and merely created unsightly patches rather than addressing the underlying structural issues.
