Comodoro Rivadavia evaluates aquaculture expansion project
The Municipality of Comodoro Rivadavia and the organization Comodoro Conocimiento are evaluating an aquaculture project led by Leufupil Patagonia. The initiative seeks to diversify the local economy through technological innovation and job creation.
The project is designed as an integrated scheme, starting with freshwater production in the Alto Río Senguer sector and potentially expanding to a pilot program in the Atlantic Ocean. Officials are currently conducting technical and environmental feasibility studies to ensure any marine species used are naturally adapted to the local ecosystem to prevent environmental damage.
To provide scientific backing, the municipality intends to collaborate with the Universidad Nacional de la Patagonia San Juan Bosco and various technological institutes. The project draws inspiration from Chile’s large-scale aquaculture industry.
