Comodoro Rivadavia marks Argentina's Independence Day with community festivals

The municipality of Comodoro Rivadavia organized a series of community events to celebrate Argentina’s Independence Day on July 9. Activities took place at the Patria Grande sociocultural centre and the San Martín senior‑day centre, drawing more than 100 participants. The programming featured live music, traditional dances, a “locro peña”, and games aimed at families and older adults.

Director of the Patria Grande centre, Emilce Otermi, said, “We organized a locro peña so families could share a different moment in commemoration of this national date. The turnout exceeded our expectations as more neighbours arrived during the event.” At the senior centre, director Beatriz Barría highlighted the importance of celebrating national holidays with older citizens, noting that the gathering included a shared lunch, desserts, and folk dances such as the gato and the chacarera.

University students also participated, helping with recreational and integration activities for children, and reflecting on the social impact of community institutions.
