Comodoro Rivadavia municipality proposes fixed subsidy system for urban bus service

The municipal government of Comodoro Rivadavia announced a draft ordinance that would establish a fixed‑rate subsidy for the city’s urban bus system. The plan, presented by Secretary of Government Sergio Bohe, aims to “transparent the cost of the service” by calculating an annual technical cost based on actual kilometres traveled and fixing the municipal contribution within the budget.

If approved, the ordinance would double the current fare from 1,114 pesos to about 2,400 pesos – a 116 % rise – but the increase would be offset by the new subsidy formula. The municipality currently spends roughly 25 000 million Argentine pesos per year on the subsidy, about 5‑7 % of the total which also includes provincial and national contributions. The new concession with Grupo MR is scheduled to start on 1 August, pending council debate in the last week of July. The proposal also guarantees discounts for students, retirees, teachers and people with disabilities and plans to integrate these benefits directly onto SUBE cards.
