Comoros and Madagascar to restore direct flights in July

President Azali Assoumani announced that direct flights between the Comoros and Madagascar are expected to resume in July, ending a four‑year suspension. The interruption began in July 2022 when Madagascar halted services citing health concerns, amid diplomatic tension over 49 kg of gold seized in the Comoros in December 2021 and returned in March 2025.

The recent visit by Assoumani to Madagascar helped thaw relations. Soilihi Mohamed Djounaid, deputy secretary‑general of the Comorian government, said the two sides had agreed on “the immediate opening of the links.” The exact start date and airline have not yet been confirmed. Residents such as Nourdine Saïd welcomed the news, noting that the direct route will cut travel costs and foster commercial exchange, eliminating the need for long stop‑overs in Addis Ababa.
